When the Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, it was a massive ship of over 600 tons. 

It weighed more than six times the length of a Boeing 747 and carried 1,200 people. 

And yet the ship was so powerful that it could easily break the speed of sound, and its occupants would have been crushed. 

The wreck, which was eventually called “Titanic,” became known as the most powerful ship in the world. 

Now, a team of scientists from the US Navy has identified and mapped out the precise location of its sinking. 

For the first time, they’ve identified the exact location of the wreck’s final resting place. 

They say it is within a kilometer (0.5 mile) of the shoreline, which means that it was most likely the site of a major disaster.

The team, which includes the Naval War College’s David Nitzan and the Naval Postgraduate School’s Mark Mascaro, released the maps Wednesday (July 1) and said that they were the largest mapping effort of its kind in the United States. 

Titanica sank off the coast of Newfoundland on April 20, 1912 and is thought to have been a major shipwreck. 

Its remains were never found, but its wreck site was well known. 

According to the report, the team identified the wreck as the first major ship-wreck to be located within a 200-meter (656-foot) radius of the coast. 

From there, they identified a second location within 200 meters (656 feet) of that first site, but their research revealed that the two locations were separated by a 1,500-meter-long (3,852-foot-long) gap. 

“These are huge, very precise locations,” Nitzand said in a statement.

“This allows us to pinpoint exactly where the ship is.” 

“It was a ship that could be very large, and when you’re a ship, you want to be very, very powerful,” he added. 

After mapping the wreck, Nitz and Mascario plan to analyze the ship’s cargo and crew, which could be valuable information in the event of a future disaster. 

In the meantime, the Navy is planning to conduct another mapping project to explore the site, which they believe will yield “more information about the ship and its cargo.” 

For now, the researchers say that the site is not a viable option for a new vessel. 

But, in the long run, the information they have on it could help save lives in the future.

“This will help us better understand the causes of Titanic’s demise,” Nittan said. 

As for the location of Titanic, the two teams have named a proposed new ship, called “The Titanic,” that will be launched sometime next year. 

Nitzan told The Associated Press that the ship will have a “cruiser’s capacity” of 3,000 people, while Mascaros said that the vessel would be able to carry 6,000 passengers and crew.
